Photograph the whole area from several directions and add close views of uneven, wet or worn sections. Approximate length and width help establish the area in square metres, but show the shape as well. Tell us what is underneath the current surface if you know, and explain how people or pets use the garden.
Include the access route, with narrow doors, steps and turns. Small London gardens can have plenty of hard surfaces around a lawn, so tell us where rainwater collects and whether that changes after heavy rain. Leave the existing covering in place until the preparation has been assessed.
On a visit, we look at levels, the condition of the ground and how the proposed surface would meet its surroundings. We discuss any water problems before treating a replacement covering as the solution. The assessment also considers where preparation materials and removed vegetation can be handled.
If the proposal includes other changes, such as new boundaries or raised features, check with your local council about the wider scheme. We agree the job quotation and installation scope, plan the work and manage it from start to finish. The preparation follows the assessed ground rather than a generic lawn size.
