Photograph pooling water when it is safe to do so, then take another view when the area is dry. Mark where the water first appears and describe whether the problem follows rainfall, occurs regularly or seems connected to another source. Note any changes to nearby paving or garden levels.
Include a view of the whole garden and the route in. London gardens can have enclosed boundaries and a mixture of old surfaces, making it hard to understand water movement from one close photograph. Tell us about known drains or services, but leave covers, excavations and underground investigation to an appropriate assessment.
