A new turf lawn depends on the ground beneath it as well as the surface you see. Turfing starts by assessing the area and the preparation needed for the lawn you want to establish.

Get a quote for a job like thisTurfing creates a new lawn surface, but successful planning begins with the area beneath it. We assess the existing covering, ground condition and shape before discussing the preparation. That gives the lawn a considered place in the garden rather than treating new turf as a covering for every problem.
The edges matter as well as the middle. We look at how the lawn will meet paths, borders and other features, and how you want to use it. Those details help establish the scope of the ground preparation and turfing in the quotation.
Take photographs of the whole proposed lawn, including any existing grass, bare ground or previous covering. Add close views of uneven areas, persistent wet patches and debris visible at the surface. Approximate measurements help show the area in square metres, while a wide photograph explains its shape.
Tell us about existing plants to retain and any earlier work to the ground. London gardens can contain old alterations and restricted access, so show the full route from the entrance to the lawn area. Leave substantial clearance or ground disturbance until the preparation has been assessed and included in the scope.
We look at the existing surface, ground condition and the way the proposed lawn connects with its surroundings. We discuss whether uneven levels or water problems need addressing as part of the work. A new lawn should be planned around those conditions, not used to conceal them.
If the job is part of wider alterations affecting protected features or significant changes to the site, check with your local council about the scheme. We agree the quotation and preparation, plan the turfing work and manage the job from start to finish. Care responsibilities are discussed alongside the installation.
✦ BEFORE YOU BOOK
The ground needs to be suitable for a lawn and prepared for the condition on site. Show what is currently there so we can assess the existing covering, levels and soil before discussing the turfing work.
New turf does not address every cause of wet ground. Tell us about water that collects or remains after rain. The drainage concern should be assessed before the new lawn surface is planned.
It depends on the condition of the new lawn and how it establishes. We discuss appropriate care and use for the job, including following the advice relevant to the turf and conditions rather than treating every garden alike.
We clarify care responsibilities with the quotation and discuss the attention the new lawn will need. Tell us whether you are enquiring about installation only or also want ongoing garden care considered separately.
