Fence installation in London

A new fence needs to suit the boundary and how you use the space beside it. Whether you are defining a garden edge or adding a division within it, the starting point is agreeing where the fence should run and what it needs to do.

Three views of fences and garden boundaries

What the service covers

A new fence should follow a clear boundary and leave the garden practical to use. We look at the proposed position, the purpose of the fence and its relationship to paths, planting and entrances. Defining those points first makes the choices about appearance more straightforward.

Installation involves more than the visible fence face. The ground needs to be understood, the line set out and the connections to existing features considered. We explain the proposed work so you know what the quotation covers, including any preparation needed along the route.

How it works

Take a wide photograph from each end of the proposed line. Show where the fencing should start and finish, along with corners, changes in level and any gate openings. If there is already a fence, tell us which parts you expect to retain. Make a note of plants, stored items or garden structures close to the work.

Photograph the way into the garden as well. A clear entrance followed by a tight turn can be just as important as a narrow gate. In closely spaced London gardens, neighbouring structures and limited working room may affect the installation, so these are useful details to share early.

During assessment, we look at the boundary alignment, ground condition and the space available to carry out the work. We also discuss how the fence will meet existing edges without obstructing access. If underground services or drains are known to be nearby, tell us where they are.

Check ownership and the boundary line before authorising new fencing. Planning requirements depend on the fence’s position, height and property restrictions; check with your local council. We then agree the quotation, organise the work and manage the installation through to completion.

✦ BEFORE YOU BOOK

Your questions answered

What should I photograph?+

Photograph the full line, both ends and any changes in direction or level. Include a view of the entrance and the route to the work. Close pictures of obstacles help us understand preparation without losing sight of the overall layout.

Is removing an old fence included?+

We can assess removal alongside the installation. Show the old fence and tell us what you want taken out or retained. We include the agreed removal and waste handling in the quotation so the new work is planned around the actual starting condition.

Can you quote from the garden size alone?+

Garden size alone does not describe the fence you need. The proposed line, fence area, ground and soil condition and access all matter. Approximate measurements and clear photographs give us a more useful basis for the estimate.

Will the quotation specify the work?+

Yes. We set out the installation and agreed preparation in the quotation, together with the specification you choose. That lets you check the scope before booking and gives the work a clear plan from the outset.
